Bath enamel repair in spots, small cosmetic repairs to the sanitary ware (and other hard surfaces), commonly known as ‘chip repair’ or ‘invisible repair’ is a cost-saving method of fixing the scratches, dings and minor imperfections.
Instead of replacing or resurfacing the whole unit, it’s often possible to fix it in a matter of hours with minimum disruption for a fraction of the cost.
The methods vary with each substrate and situation, but as a general description, I do the service by reinforcing and levelling the damaged spot.
An accurate colour match then follows structural repair and blending into the existing area keeping the restoration as small and invisible to the naked eye as possible.
Whether it’s cracked acrylic bathtub or chipped enamelware, the solution can sometimes be more straightforward than having a team of builders rip off the tiles and replace your sanitary ware, creating disruption, unnecessary costs and waste.

I always try to go for the most effective bath repair solution and whenever possible, small spot repair can prevent replacement or a full resurfacing of the sanitary piece.
More complicated and more significant damage can be treated as the full resurfacing job, if necessary. For example, if there’s more than three to five chipped enamel places or multiple scratches on the acrylic shower base, I strongly recommend repairing the whole surface instead of having them spot-sprayed in many places. Full re-enameling treatment offers a better final result than chasing various places with spot touching in. Especially a shower tray surface can be tricky to make as good as new again when repaired in spots, because a large flat acrylic surface is reflecting the light evenly and in the same way on the entire unit. Doing the small shower repair in an obvious place, for example in the centre of the shower base is really difficult to hide. With the modern, strong spot ceiling LED or halogen light, it makes it a well challenging task for the technician to keep the repair small and have the invisible repair results. Think of a car panel or a mirror – it’s not that far away ;) It’s however doable and I can patiently achieve great results, which is proved by my clients feedback. With minor scratches, discoloration and slight imperfections on acrylic, plastic made bath or shower it is often possible to restore the surface with chemical cleaning and polishing. I often propose to restore the bath or shower instead of resurfacing. Acrylic bath repair doesn’t always mean spraying a new material on top. If the bath or acrylic shower tray is in moderately good shape and it can be treated with the surface saving method, I’m proposing it to the clients as it can save them money, while the solution is durable and effective. However, not every item I can restore this way. I don’t polish or chemically clean the vitreous enamel or offer it as a long term solution. Glass made, the vitreous enamel surface is too hard to be polished, and if it’s rough, cleaning is only a step towards a full resurfacing job. Even if temporarily clean, without resurfacing, etched, rough and dull enamel will catch the dirt within days all over again.
