Reviving your worn-out bathtub through re-enameling (bath resurfacing) is a very cost-effective way to transform your bathroom without a complete refurbishment of your space. However, before scrolling down for my price guide, it is essential to understand the factors that influence the overall cost. By delving into these elements, you can understand how I quote when preparing an offer for your bath surface repair project.
Factors Affecting the Cost of Bath Re-Enameling.
1. Geographical location:
A vast majority of the work is done in situ. I drive to You, my potential clients, to help resurfacing your bath so the no.1 question is – can I reach your place?
Prices of bath re-enameling vary depending on your location, so I always ask for the postcode before sending back a final quote. Most repairs are done in situ within a day. The bigger and more complex resurfacing jobs can take longer than a day. If so, I might have to add some extra for an overnight stay in a local area. I am always trying to be transparent about that and discuss what would work best if there is something out of the standard.
The typical scenario is a resurfacing of a built-in white bath within an hour’s radius from my South Wales (CF32 7LD) location. On average the full resurfacing job would cost £480 total (valid for 2024).
Another main factor that affects the cost of bath re-enameling is the condition and the type and size of your tub.
Although most of the resurfacing jobs I do in client’s premises, You are very welcome to visit me in my workshop near the Cardiff-Swansea area. This bath was bravely delivered over the m4 motorway on top of the classic Range Rover Woof…I mean the roof.

This very rare canopy bath was fully restored by me inside and outside. Due to a size the job was done in-situ, while the entire bathroom was under refurbishment. Isn’t it stunning?
Standard built-in bathtub reglazing costs tend to be cheaper to resurface than freestanding art deco or roll-top baths, which may cost more due to their size and complexity.
Larger bathtubs such as canopy or art-deco baths require more materials and time, which can increase the overall cost.
Additional items, such as bath panels, soap bar shelves, etc. can also be sprayed if requested.

3. Level of damage.
If the bath only has minor chips or scratches, it will be less expensive to repair than a bath with extensive cracks or peeling enamel. Additionally, the extent of damage or wear and tear also plays a significant role. If your tub requires extensive repairs or removing the old coatings before re-enameling, it may impact the final price. The baths that have been painted over before by professional or DIY paint, will be charged a little extra, than that with the original factory enamel finish.

4. Colour matching, non-white bathroom ware resurfacing:

Some projects are easy to take to my workshop such as basin repairs and restoration of copper and acrylic baths. These are lightweight and can be restored as a collection and delivery service that I also provide. Prices are quoted individually for that.

With today’s access to all options online instantly, it is tempting to use something as a DIY for bath resurfacing. While paying for a professional service can be seen as high for many, the DIY can of paint will be exactly what I named it – paint in a bucket.
After purchasing it, is your problem of how you use it and what results it will deliver.
I often compare the task of DIY bath enamel painting to repainting a car by yourself – you can do it, but expect it will look very ‘unique’ and the finish may not last long.

Can I afford it to have it enameled by a professional?

Very often the job is not of what it looks like to be – in some cases a good chemical clean and partial repair, delivered the fantastic results for a fracture of a cost.
